So, how did the first day go?
Well, it actually wasn't so bad. I did spend more time on social media than I had planned, but only for work purposes, so I'm not beating myself up over it. Instead of the planned 30 minutes, I would estimate that it was closer to one hour. Part of the reason for this, however, is that because I wasn't scrolling through my feeds for my personal life, I had more time to organize my brain to get through some things I needed to for awhile for Allegory Gallery. So, all in all, that's a plus, I'd say.
And television? Well, I actually watched none. Andrew and I sat down to have dinner, but we opted not to turn on the television at all. We talked a bit, caught up with each other some, discussed some news, and then I came to my office to work and he went into his studio to do the same. I think the no television idea will be more difficult as the days go on, but we'll see! All through college and most of the time in NYC, I had no tv, so I do believe it's possible for me!
So, did I get anywhere back to the "me" I'm looking for? I'd have to say no, not yet. Today was kind of the break-away day and most of my attention was focused on trying to not pick up my phone just out of habit and scroll through my timelines. Most of the time, I succeeded. There were a few times I ended up on Instagram or Twitter, but tried to spend less than five minutes on each and move on.
I did start to organize some Allegory Gallery activities and ideas, so that was good. One thing I've found is that it's probably best to use pen and paper for most things while this is new, as there is less chance of being distracted (notifications are dangerous things!).
But, all in all, I'd have to say that today was a good day. I, mostly, stuck to what I wanted from this, and will try to move on from here and grow during the experience.
